Welcome to the
Army Spouses' Club!

The Army Spouses’ Club of the Greater Washington Area (ASCGWA) is a non-profit organization run by dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to support and promote socio-economic and educational outreach for Soldiers, their Families, and Department of the Army (DA) Civilians in the National Capital Region (NCR). We also aim to foster connections among our members and support organizations that benefit Soldiers.

We take pride in our heritage, celebrate our diversity, and look forward to a bright future! Our club offers numerous opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make new ones through monthly luncheons, tours, volunteer and fundraising events, and other social activities. The DC area has so much to offer, and we invite you to explore it with us. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Our members reside throughout the Washington D.C. metro area, including Maryland and Virginia, with many living near Joint Base Fort Myer-Henderson Hall, Fort McNair, and Fort Belvoir. We hope you’ll join us.

Meet Our 2026-2027 Board HERE!!

A Note From the 2026-2027 Presidents:

Welcome to the Army Spouses’ Club of the Greater Washington Area (ASCGWA)!

We are thrilled you have found us! Whether you’re new to the area or returning for another year, we look forward to welcoming you to our 2026–2027 club year. ASCGWA warmly welcomes military-affiliated spouses from all branches of service. Complete membership requirements are available in the Membership box above. Our club offers wonderful opportunities to build new friendships, reconnect with old acquaintances, and connect with military spouses from diverse backgrounds and ages. Together, we share similar experiences and understand the unique challenges and rewards of military life.

It has been a busy summer for your ASCGWA Board. Board members met at the end of July for a full day of planning and preparation for the upcoming year. This impressive team of volunteers has some exciting plans in store for you. Our club is fortunate to have such dedicated spouses serving our club and community.

We hope you’ll join us at our Welcome Social—we’d love to see you there! Due to an installation-wide function at Spates Hall on our traditional third Thursday, this year’s Welcome Social will be held on Tuesday, September 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Be sure to visit our ASCGWA tables to learn more about upcoming events, sign up for Special Activities Groups, and discover the fabulous offerings at our Ways and Means table. You’ll also have the chance to connect with representatives from organizations that support military families and shop from our wonderful vendors.

We offer a variety of events and activities throughout the year, and you can participate as much or as little as you like. Our luncheons are scheduled for the third Thursday of the month. Each luncheon features an entertaining program or guest speaker, along with shopping for fantastic items at our Ways and Means table and from guest vendors. Throughout the year, we also support our local military community through our Community Causes, giving members opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The activities offered to our club members include:

Tours: Join us for a variety of outings, many of which are exclusive to members. Explore local points of interest, including museums, historic homes, seasonal performances, and sporting events.

Workshops: Explore your creativity through specialized classes led by local artisans, many of whom are military spouses. Enjoy a relaxed, small-group setting where both beginners and experienced crafters can learn, create, and connect with others.

Special Activity Groups: Connect with fellow club members who share your interests. Whether you enjoy reading with our Books and Bites Book Club, playing games with the Bunco Bunch or Mahjong Mavens, or catching the latest film with the Reel Deal Group, there’s something for everyone. A complete list of groups is available under the Special Activities tab. If you don’t see a group that matches your interests, we’re always happy to welcome members who would like to coordinate a new group.

Zip Code Groups (ZCG): Meet with ASCGWA members who live in your local area or neighborhood through gatherings at restaurants, members’ homes, or other local points of interest. If you’re new to the area, your fellow ZCG members are a great resource for discovering the best places to shop, finding local stylists, and getting helpful recommendations about the community.

ASCGWA is privileged to welcome international military spouses stationed throughout the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) area. Our International Members enrich our organization by sharing their cultures, traditions, and perspectives, helping us build meaningful connections and celebrate the diversity of our military community. We look forward to getting to know these wonderful spouses, sharing in their experiences, and showing them all that we love about living in our nation’s capital.

A highlight of each club year is the Joint Armed Forces of Washington Luncheon. (JAFOWL). This annual event, established in 1977, is organized in partnership with our sister clubs from the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard. This not-to-be-missed event has featured distinguished speakers such as Bob Hope, George Bush, Michelle Obama, Gary Sinise, and Usha Vance.

We are excited to connect with you at an ASCGWA luncheon, event, or activity this year. Follow us on social media and visit our website for the latest updates and all things ASCGWA!

Wishing you a wonderful year with the Army Spouses’ Club!

Warmly,

Michelle Funkhouser & Paula Rowe, Co-Presidents, president@armyspousesclub.org
